Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science

Founded in 1969, the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of Feng Chia University is the earliest established computer science department in Taiwan. It offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees, including Bachelors of Science, Masters of Sciences and Ph.D. in Computer Science.

There are more than thirty full-time faculty members in the department, and all are experts in their respective fields of study. Our flexible curriculum allows students to select classes to fulfill coursework requirements while also preparing themselves for careers in any area of computer science. In addition, industry-sponsored course projects, internships, and co-op opportunities allow students to gain real-world experience before graduation.

The department provides cutting edge research opportunities and state-of-the-art research facilities for students. Led by nationally and globally recognized researchers, students engage in research projects that address some of the most important challenges facing the world today. Research areas include computer security, cryptography, software engineering, network engineering and management, mobile computing, parallel systems, distributed systems, data center, data mining, VLSI, system-on-chip, bioinformatics, etc. In addition to many research project supported laboratories, the department has its own network engineering, software engineering, logic design and embedded system labs for general teaching purposes.

Department of Electrical Engineering

     In the development of modern technology, the electrical engineering plays a very important role in the industrial development. The Feng Chia University, therefore, established the Department of Electrical Engineering(EE) in 1974. In the recent decades, a variety of industrial products are developed and exported, which can make the national economics more perspective than ever. Among these products, electrical and electronics products have the rapid growth. Therefore, the Graduate institute of Electrical Engineering was established in 1992.In these years, the Department has trained a lot of professional engineers and made significant contributions to national industry. The Department, according to the study of specialty, is distributed into three programs. They are the Electro-Magnetic and Energy Resources program, Electro-Optics Engineering program, and Electro-Wave Engineering program. Based on these three programs, undergraduate courses are designed to educate students the basic concept of all of the three fields. The faulty members are actively engaged in teaching and research. In addition to professional knowledge, experimental trainings are designed to enhance the ability of the students. Since the Electrical Engineering covers a variety of fields, e.g., electronics, communication, power, information, optics, control, ..., etc., a lot of professional EE technicians or scholars are needed in modern industry, education organization, and research institute.



Department of Electronic Engineering

To fulfill the growing demands of high-tech industries and the prosperous development of our country, the Department of Electronic Engineering was originally established in 1972. Since 1992, the department has worked jointly with the Department of Electrical Engineering to launch the graduate program offering the MS degrees. Later in 1998 and 2000, the Institute of Electronic Engineering has been founded separately to provide MS and Doctorate degrees for both regular and on-job graduate studies, respectively. For about four decades, we have educated more than five thousand well-trained electronic engineers to serve the thriving needs of the semiconductor and VLSI design related industries. The Department of Electronic Engineering currently consists of 20 full-time faculty, approximately 480 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students. The department offers the BS, MS and Doctorate degrees in Electronic Engineering and has an active and growing research program. Our faculty has won international recognition for their work and receive research funding primarily from governmental and industrial sources. We have partnered with other departments at FCU and around the nation to devote to research and new technologies.

To provide students with both solid theoretical training and practical participations in the electronic engineering has always been the distinguished emphasis on the departmental curricular design. The Department has regulated a required course, Individual Work, to be taken by the senior students. With the advisory assistance and mentoring from the Professor, students as a team will have to launch their own specialized project, from the very beginning to the final presentation and publication, to explore them the capability of independent learning, which is essential to their career practice in the future.

This Department has achieved much in terms of international exchanges, industry-academia collaborations, numbers of graduates with job or graduate school offers upon graduation, activities and competitions. In the future, this Department will continue to provide a curriculum focused on the cultivation of fundamental science and professional knowledge, engineering ethics, international perspective and leadership skills to develop outstanding hi-tech talent to complement national development goals and that can keep abreast of technological advancements, as well as actively serve society.



Department of Automatic Control Engineering

     The primary mission of the Department of Automatic Control Engineering is educational, providing the facilities and the studying environment for graduate and undergraduate education through research in the areas of control, opto-mechatronic and biomedical technologies. A basic goal is to promote collaboration between corporate staff and their academic counterparts to produce professional, high-quality automatic control engineers that fulfill the needs of the industrial sector. The synergistic interplay of corporate and academic viewpoints provides the spark to develop new enterprise research and development tools, and fosters a deeper understanding of the technical culture that produces new products. Based on this concept, department facilities and resources are utilized to serve industry and government institutes. We also actively conduct research and teaching, and render services to maximize our contribution to students and the society at large.



Department of Communications Engineering

     In coordination with nation’s need of communication-technological professional, Department of Communications Engineering, Feng Chia University was approved by Education Ministry and established in 2002. Department offered bachelor program and master program. Doctoral program is included in the Institute of Electrical and Communications Engineering under College of Information and Electrical Engineering. The mission of Department of Communications Engineering is to educate students with communication specialty which is eagerly needed by industry as well as to instill FCU’s motto, Faith, Diligence, Honesty, and Perseverance, in students. Due to communications engineering is an integrated knowledge, there are 16 faculty members, 5 Professor, 9 Associate Professors and 2 Assistant Professors, in the department and all of them are with doctoral degrees in the fields of electrical engineering, electronic engineering, computer engineering or physics. Aside from high quality faculty, excellent hardware/software facilities are also provided. As far as the experimental training for basic education and research are concerned, there are 18 related laboratories. Department is accredited by IEET (substantially equivalent to ABET). We devoted to continue improving the learning and research environment so that it can conduct research of influence and high impact, and educate students to be talent in communications engineering.



Undergraduate Program of Information and Electrical Engineering College

     In the college, there are six departments, Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Electronic Engineering, Department of Automatic Control Engineering, Department of Communication Engineering, and Honor Program, College of Information and Electrical Engineering (HPIEE), provide undergraduate academic study program. The academic study strategy of undergraduate adopts program-directed expertise training, and there are two to three programs encompassed in, except for HPIEE, the five departments and up to overall 12 programs. The 12 academic programs are thus induced according to the development of current techniques, industrial demands and the specialties of the faculties in each Department. At the end of the first-year each freshman has to choose one program among the ones provided by the Department where he or she is as his or her major academic study and to take courses listed in the rest of the three years. For the students of HPIEE, each student can choose among 12 programs as his or her major program. Besides, all students are encouraged to take the other program(s), among 12 programs, as his or her auxiliary program.



Master's Program, College of Information and Electrical Engineering

     On demand of advanced talent in system integration related to information and electrical engineering industries and education units, College of Information and Electrical Engineering (CIEE) at the year 2002 reorganizes and combines the resources therein to provide graduate-study environment for those who are currently professional. There are two graduate-study groups: electrical and automatic control, and electronic and communications.



Master's Program of Biomedical Informatics and Biomedical Engineering 

    The Master's Program of Biomedical Informatics and Biomedical Engineering was developed to integrate the university’s biomedical, bioinformatics and biomedical engineering programs and to provide students with an interdisciplinary approach to learning. The purpose of this program is to cultivate interdisciplinary biomedical talent through a balanced theoretical and practical education. It is expected that graduates of this program will be well equipped to enter programs of advanced study or the job market. An experienced faculty and specialized courses fulfill the learning objectives of students from a diversity of fields.  


Master's Program in Industrial R&D

     “Master’s Program in Industrial Research and Development” is directed originally by Ministry of Economic Affairs and Ministry of Education of R.O.C.. The purposes are to fill in the gap of manpower of industry in the following major subjects: electronic engineering, electrical engineering, information engineering and computer science, automatic control engineering, communications engineering, material science and engineering, Physics science, and photonic engineering. And effective support domestic industry investment in research, development, and innovation. Also enhance competitive power in industry. 

     The program arranges the students to accept on the job training according to each industry requirements, and companies will promise to hire above 70% students who pass the qualifications and graduate within two years.


 Ph.D. Program of Electrical and Communication Engineering

  • Sharing educational resources with the College of Information and Electrical Engineering (CIEE), the Ph.D. Program provides diverse facilities in an integrated environment so that students who are engaged in research have access to up-to-date equipment and facilities. The wide range of research areas in the Ph.D. Program also helps students develop a broad view of CE/EE issues.


  • Based on our excellent achievements in various areas, students in the Ph.D. Program can obtain the advanced knowledge that is sought after in the high-tech industry. We hope that this program will improve the cooperation between the CIEE, the government, and industry. The CIEE provides educational and training resources especially for those who want to pursue studies in advanced technologies to promote the development of hi-tech industries in central Taiwan. To this end, both Ph.D. and master’s programs are offered. We hope that by helping engineers improve their alifications that related enterprises will develop and apply new technologies, which in turn will increase the demand for highly qualified engineers.
